RISD Site Ecology Design Studio: Providence Bay Ferry Park • 2015

This park is located at the historical site in Providence named Fox Point, which is the gateway of Narragansett Bay. It is designed as an entrance to the Rhode Island Ferry System. Part of a green belt in the Providence Park System, the park connects to the whole park system in the city.

The tides changing on the dynamic, constructed landform create a dramatic feeling about Narragansett Bay. The landform creates an inertidal habitat that is hospitable not only to fresh water species but also salt water species, such as salt-mash, hard clam, and the great egret. Activity zones divided into two different parts. One quiet zone is isolated islands for the timid egret, the other is for visitors and ferries.People can have fun at the west part of the park such as taking the ferry, digging hard clams, island meditation, biking, and observing great egrets, while great egrets and other species can enjoy the wetland and dwell on the isolated islands which make up the majority of the park.
